If your child has an eye problem, is facing difficulty reading, or needs surgery or medical treatment for an illness affecting the eyes, a pediatric ophthalmologist has the experience and qualifications to treat your child.
Squint:
Squint or strabismus is not a cosmetic problem. The causes of squint especially in children can be due to several reasons such as uncorrected refractive error in one eye, an injury, problem in eye muscles or neurological problems.
Not all types of squints can be corrected by a surgery. The treatment for squint may include prescription of glasses, eye exercises, patching of the other eye or surgical correction. It takes a detailed examination to decide the best course of action.
AEI’s neuro-ophthalmologists offer comprehensive examination as well as medical and surgical services using the most advanced diagnostic technology. Our paediatric ophthalmologists are experts in paediatric, neuro and strabismus as sub specialities.
Unlike other eye problems, squint falls under the preview of both neurology and ophthalmology. To treat such problems, a separate branch called neuro-ophthalmology, that deals with complex systemic disease that have manifestations in the visual system, is needed. AEI is one of the very few institutes in the nation to provide paediatric neuro-ophthalmology services.
Something that you would not want to miss An important part of the institute is the Saveranand Nethralaya, non-profit organization. The organization supports school camps and screening for any paediatric eye diseases as well as outpatient clinic for underprivileged children.
